LG’s vehicle-to-everything (V2X) solution for Volkswagen has received the world’s first Common Criteria (CC) certification for security stability in its category. The device is LG’s VW Transceiver Module – a telematics component developed for Volkswagen’s ICE-specific MQB platform.
CC certification is an internationally recognized standard for IT product security that ensures a device offers comprehensive protection against unauthorized access. The VW Transceiver Module was extensively tested by DEKRA, a laboratory for CC certification, and found to have met CC’s security standards, earning itself an Evaluation Assurance Level (EAL) 2+ rating from Spain’s National Cryptologic Center (CCN).
V2X is a technology that allows vehicles to communicate with systems, devices and technologies in the surrounding area, including other vehicles (V2V), traffic infrastructure (V2I) and – via smartphones – pedestrians (V2P). With a foolproof security system, V2X devices will not be susceptible to hackers, eliminating data breaches, accidents and congestion. LG also plans to achieve the same CC certification for its V2X exclusive for Volkswagen’s MEB electric vehicle platform this year. The company is also improving security across all areas of its automotive business.
“By earning CC certification for the security of our V2X solution for Volkswagen, we have effectively demonstrated our superior component technology and security capabilities, both of which are key elements for success in the future mobility sector,” said Eun Seokhyun, president of LG vehicle component solutions.”
