For automotive manufacturers, vehicle simulation enables early-stage testing in a virtual environment, even when physical prototypes are unavailable. PTV Vissim Automotive now includes a closed-loop test environment with realistic, behavior-model-based surrounding traffic.
The software provides intelligent automation and presets to simplify and accelerate use, including presets for driving behavior, designed for a quick setup and adjustment of the test environment’s intensity. A new traffic generation wizard can instantly create a bustling traffic environment, which can be adjusted for different traffic densities.
The company says it has enhanced its standard following model with a new behavior model for automated vehicles, to reproduce driving behaviors for ADAS and automated driving (AD) as realistically as possible.
The software provides interfaces to key industry solutions such as IPG CarMaker, dSpace ASM, Hexagon Virtual Test Drive and MathWorks Simulink, which PTV says can enable co-simulations. It also supports OpenDRIVE network imports up to the latest version 1.8 and includes a new importer for external elevation data.
Christian U Haas, CEO of PTV Group, said, “In today’s automotive landscape, simulation is an indispensable tool for developing safe, efficient and future-proof vehicles. PTV Vissim Automotive is specifically designed to address the industry’s evolving needs, from optimizing alternative powertrain performance to rigorously testing the safety of automated driving functionalities.”
