Waymo resumed operations in Phoenix, Arizona, this week (Monday, May 11) with modifications to protect staff well-being.
Driving operations were suspended in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but the test fleet is hitting the streets and Waymo One customers are being served again.
Waymo says it has redesigned workplaces to respect physical distancing guidelines, updating health and safety training including the use of facemasks, extra cleaning, and screening all individuals before they enter Waymo facilities.
On its blog, Waymo said, “It feels good to get back on the road! Thanks to our Waymo One riders in Metro Phoenix for their patience as we work to get our driving operations back online safely and in line with the new normal.”
Waymo plans to begin driving in the cities including San Francisco and Los Angeles, California, and Detroit, Michigan, and with similar health and safety measures to those in Phoenix.
