The 408P electric mixer truck, developed by the Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer Sany Group, has successfully passed the updated EU General Safety Regulation (GSR) benchmark. The company says the truck is the first Chinese electric engineering vehicle to receive the latest Whole Vehicle Type-Approval (SVTA) certificate.
The 408P’s certification was conducted under the supervision of TÜV Rheinland, a technical service provider. The tests confirmed that the Sany 408P electric mixer truck is safe, reliable and compliant with EU regulations and standards. The vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), developed by Haistar, was highlighted by TÜV for its adaptability and expandability.
The EU GSR, introduced in 2019, aims to enhance protection for vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users (VRUs), such as pedestrians and cyclists, to reduce traffic accidents and casualties. The latest update, effective July 2024, requires all commercial vehicles registered in the EU to be equipped with appropriate ADAS functionality.
The Sany 408P electric mixer truck has met five GSR ADAS features: moving off information system (MOIS), blind spot information system (BSIS), reversing information system (REIS), intelligent speed assist (ISA) and driver dowsiness and alertness warning (DDAW).
ISA alerts the driver to slow down when speeding is detected and has undergone more than 6,000km of on-road testing across 10 EU countries. TÜV says it achieved more than 90% accuracy in single-scenario recognition and 96% overall accuracy. DDAW monitors the driver’s facial features, eye motions and head movements to detect fatigue, issuing alerts or taking appropriate actions as needed. The MOIS informs the driver of pedestrians and cyclists within the vehicle’s front proximity blind spot, while the BSIS detects collision risks in the right blind spot when making turns. The REIS assists with parking by providing a real-time reversing video screen to avoid collisions.
“Looking ahead, Sany will push forward to develop our international markets, empowering advances in digital intelligence and promoting low-carbon operations to provide high-quality, safe, more reliable and more intelligent products to global customers,” said Yu Hongfu, president of Sany Heavy Industry.
