E-commerce logistics specialist Cainiao has lauched it latest L4-level autonomous vehicle – the Cainiao Autonomous Vehicle GT Pro – for use on public roads.
Comparable in size to a compact passenger vehicle, the GT Pro has a cargo space of 5m2 , with the capacity to carry 600-800 parcels per trip and a 180km range for long-distance delivery.
The GT Pro is an updated version of the Cainiao GT, which debuted in 2024, and includes an interactive front light display that enables the vehicle to communicate its working status across various scenarios.
Additionally, the sensor suite has been upgraded to include one lidar and 11 high-definition cameras in a multi-sensor fusion system. According to Cainiao, this improved setup “boosts the vehicle’s environmental perception, enhancing its ability to accurately and reliably detect and respond to its surroundings during operation”.
By December 2024 the Cainiao GT had reached customers across more than 10 provinces in China, including Zhejiang, Shandong, Henan, Shaanxi, Anhui and Jiangsu, and was deployed in more than 30 counties and municipal-level regions.
Cainiao said it plans to advance its technology from high-precision maps to map-free navigation, further expanding the commercial potential of autonomous vehicles. The company is also exploring new use cases such as supermarket deliveries while developing more customized GT Pro models to meet the diverse needs of various business applications.
