At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Here Technologies introduced a series of solutions – EV Range Factors – designed to enhance on-route range calculations for EVs.
Addressing the common challenge of driver range anxiety, Here’s EV Range Factors solutions leverage road topography, temperature and wind data to improve the accuracy of ‘on-route, distance to empty’ calculations.
The complexity of EV range predictions is influenced by various static and dynamic factors, often contributing to driver range anxiety. Existing EV predictions rely on historical data and lack real-time considerations during a journey. Here’s solution has been designed for OEMs developing in-house routing solutions for EVs and allows them to integrate predictive data for more accurate and reliable on-route range predictions.
EV Range Factors include road topography data for upcoming elevation, slope, curvature and roughness in over 60 countries; predictive ambient and road surface temperature data; and predictive wind speed and direction near the road surface. The goal is to inform drivers and give them confidence for a stress-free journey.
The commercial availability of Here’s EV Range Factors is planned for mid-2024, with road topography data already accessible in 60+ countries, and temperature and wind coverage initially planned for Europe and North America.
Christopher Handley, vice president of dynamic spatial content at Here Technologies, said, “We’re excited to introduce location technology designed to address the complexities of on-route battery range calculations for electric vehicles. By providing crucial data on road characteristics, temperature and wind, we’re focused on providing drivers with the confidence and information they need for a hassle-free journey.”
