Volvo Cars has opened a new facility in Sunnyvale, California, tripling the size of its Silicon Valley Tech Center. The center focuses on technologies such as electrification, AV, ADAS and digital services.
Volvo opened the first of its Silicon Valley Tech Center locations in September 2016, with the aim of being closer to tech development partners including Google, Uber, Amazon and NVIDIA.
In addition, the Tech Center is also active in product development, business development, advanced engineering, and most recently, a corporate venture arm to invest in cutting-edge tech startups.
“Our Silicon Valley Tech Center helps us embrace technologies and market forces shaping a future that is electrified, autonomous, and best of all, about so much more than getting from point A to B. Our intention is to mobilize and connect teams from Sweden to California to jointly deliver on this vision,” said chief digital officer Atif Rafiq.
