Taiwan-based oToBrite, a provider of vision-AI ADAS/AD solutions, has successfully developed a compact all-weather vision-AI driver monitoring system (DMS).
The system has a high-sensitivity automotive-grade global shutter image sensor, which enables it to achieve “outstanding quantum efficiency (QE)” for clear image quality, day and night. Combined with oToBrite’s secondary optical system, the DMS is able to provide enhanced accuracy and reliability of the vision-AI algorithm in all weather conditions.
The vision-AI DMS uses self-developed AI 3D facial landmark technology, which can identify more than 100 driver IDs and recognize driving behaviors such as smoking, phone use, distraction and fatigue. The system also remains effective even when drivers wear Level 3 sunglasses or coated glasses, oToBrite says.
The DMS features a 940nm infrared and high-QE sensor, coupled with oToBrite’s proprietary optical design, to provide clear images in strong light conditions (>120K lux) or during night-time driving.
Miniaturization has also been taken into account, as the DMS only needs one LED to meet the system’s image quality requirements. The secondary optical system also adjusts the LED light source to any angle to meet light distribution needs, the company states.
With demand driven by regulatory developments worldwide, oToBrite has begun mass production of the DMS and has already successfully delivered it to heavy commercial vehicle manufacturers.
