The Petersen Automotive Museum, an automobile museum located in Los Angeles, California, is putting on four new exhibits this August. Among these, a key highlight is ‘Driven by Possibility: Waymo’s Road to Autonomous Transport,’ which focuses on Waymo’s advancements in autonomous driving (AD) technology.
The Waymo exhibit, located in the Production Gallery, will trace the journey from its origins as the Google self-driving car project to its current status as a leader in autonomous ride hailing. Visitors will get a behind-the-scenes look at Waymo’s development process through unique displays, including Waymo’s Firefly prototype, the first autonomous vehicle to pilot a passenger without an accompanying driver.
The exhibit will also feature a prototype of Geely’s next-generation Zeekr platform and the Terregator, a six-wheeled mobile robot developed by the Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute in 1984.
In addition to the Waymo exhibit, the museum will showcase three other exhibits: ‘Alternating Currents: The Fall and Rise of Electric Vehicles,’ supported by BMW and Clarios, will explore the evolution of EVs from the late 1800s to modern concepts, featuring historic models like the 1896 Riker electric roadster and the 2021 Lanark DS Roadster. ‘Modern Concepts: Future Visions from the Recent Past’ will showcase notable concept cars produced since 1994, including the 1995 Ford GT90 and the 2002 Cadillac Cien, while ‘Super/Hyper: The Ultimate Automobiles’ will celebrate high-performance vehicles with a rotating display of supercars and hypercars, such as the Bugatti Divo and Koenigsegg CCXR.
