In a demonstration to show the flexibility of its lidar system, AEye has released a video showing it tracking a moving bullet.
Using software that can react to changing conditions in real time, AEye says it can trade range for speed or resolution depending on operating conditions. A spokesperson noted that in urban environments, resolution was key to defining pedestrians and other road users, while on a highway, response rate moved to the fore due to higher speeds.
In the test, a .45 caliber bullet was used, traveling at 800fps with the lidar scanning at what was described as a 22,000 frame-rate scan pattern.
