Doosan Bobcat North America has partnered with fellow US firm Ainstein AI, Inc., a radar technologies company, to develop next-generation radar sensor systems for Bobcat equipment.
Through this partnership, the companies will collaborate to create radar-based sensing solutions to detect objects and people on jobsites. This technology will be vital for the implementation of either semi-autonomous or fully autonomous equipment on construction sites, which are often teeming with personnel and other machinery.
At its core, the radar system collects object position data — like range, azimuth, elevation and doppler information — to provide real-time alerts to operators by incorporating a combination of mmWave radar, sensor fusion and artificial intelligence.
Bobcat hopes that this will allow an operator to be more immersed in the task being performed as opposed to focusing on obstacle and collision avoidance, with the technology applicable to both avoidance solutions and future products that support autonomous operations.
