The Renault Megane will go on sale in July this year and upgrades bring it up to Level 2 autonomous driving.
The optional Highway & Traffic Jam Companion, a Level 2 autonomous system, combines adaptive cruise-control with Lane Keep Assist. It regulates the speed of the vehicle and maintains a safe distance from other vehicles.
Renault says the Stop & Go adaptive cruise-control feature can safely stop the vehicle and restart it automatically within three seconds when the car needs to come to a complete halt, and when the traffic starts moving again. It is activated between 0 and 100mph (160km/h) and is available on all vehicles with EDC automatic transmission.
The Active Emergency Braking System has enhanced pedestrian detection. It warns the driver of a hazardous situation and, if they fail to react, activates the braking system.
The optional Blind Spot Warning is fitted with a new radar sensor technology ensuring accurate identification of nearby vehicles, including those exiting a car park.
Renault says the Lane Departure Warning is more effective and paired with the Lane Guard System. It is activated from 40mph (64km/h) and both features work together to warn the driver or correct the course of the vehicle should it cross into another lane without the indicator being activated.
Driver drowsiness detection is available on certain models and identifies the driver’s tiredness according to steering-wheel movements, with audible and visual warnings advising them to take a break.
Other features include the optional Park Assist, reversing camera, Easy Park Assist, cruise-control with speed limiter, automatic high-beam assist headlights and Traffic Sign Recognition.
