According to TRL, the global center for innovation in transportation and mobility, to promote ridesharing, we need a greater understanding of where the challenges lie.
UK-based TRL has called for further research and is pushing for a greater understanding of how to shift the way people analyze transportation options, moving it from a personal-need viewpoint to a more altruistic, society-gain standpoint.
This will not only help boost the adoption rate of solutions such as ridesharing, but it will also help to educate end users to look beyond personal benefits. At present, the uptake of ridesharing is negatively affected by the entrenched human desire to own a private vehicle for personal journeys.
It is hoped that encouraging people to commit to ridesharing will help the UK’s local authorities and city planners, who are in urgent need of strategies that will help reduce the number of vehicles on roads, while cutting congestion and improving air quality.
