Renesas Electronics is working with Dibotics to develop an automotive-grade lidar processing solution that they say will provide the basis for real-time 3D mapping systems, without the need for IMUs and GPS data, and with low power consumption and high functional safety.

The solution will combine Renesas’s R-Car system-on-chip (SoC) with Dibotics’ 3D simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM) processing technology to create a ‘SLAM on Chip’. Formerly, implementing 3D SLAM processing on a SoC required a high-performance PC, say the companies.
