Smart Corner and sensor fusion technologies are being demonstrated by Magneti Marelli at the North American International Auto Show, held in Detroit, Michigan, on January 13-28, 2018. Smart Corner is being displayed in a production vehicle. The solution integrates camera, radar and lidar sensors into projector headlamps and tail lamps.
Smart Corner builds on Magneti Marelli’s recent investment in solid-state lidar company LeddarTech. Magneti Marelli says the solution provides OEMs with the required functionality for autonomous driving, while maintaining aesthetics and lighting performance. The solution is designed to reduce weight and cost, and eliminate the need for separate packaging, wiring and connectors on the vehicle’s exterior.
Magneti Marelli is offering “ride and drives” in a production vehicle, exposing passengers to sensor fusion technology in action. Sensor fusion is the process of gathering data/input from multiple sensors and fusing it together to generate a more comprehensive description of the surrounding environment. The live demonstration shows the company’s ability to fuse radar and lidar data (both raw and tracked) to detect and track surrounding vehicles in a motorway scenario.
