Iteris, a technology provider for smart mobility infrastructure management, and Telenav, a supplier of connected-car and location-based services, have announced a collaboration that will see Telenav use Iteris’s ClearData for traffic and travel information.
ClearData aggregates and validates mobility data from various sources, including incidents, speed and connected vehicle probes. This data is then delivered to clients in both the public and private sectors through subscription-based direct data feeds or application programming interfaces (APIs).
As a component of the Iteris ClearMobility Platform, ClearData uses cloud computing, AI, advanced sensors, advisory services and managed services to ensure safe and sustainable mobility.
Telenav will leverage ClearData to enhance its Scout Maps application, providing users with updated traffic information and driver coaching features.
Scout Maps is a mobile and in-car application that provides functions such as live traffic updates, speed limit alerts and navigation tips. The app calculates alternative routes, provides real-time traffic and speed updates, and includes a “Safety Score” feature that gives users insights into their driving behavior.
“We’re excited to be chosen to provide mobility data to Telenav’s industry-leading navigation applications,” said Will Cousins, senior vice president and chief product officer at Iteris. “With the addition of our proprietary mobility data, Telenav’s solutions will be able to provide even more precise safety scores and navigation for their users while broadening the use of our data.”
Telenav’s AI-powered features in Scout Maps enable drivers to receive safer route calculations and traffic information, including sudden speed limit changes. The app also provides insights into risky driving behaviors, such as hard braking and speeding.
With ClearData supplying live traffic conditions, Scout Maps users can benefit from more accurate estimated arrival times during rush hours, the ability to avoid congested roads and accidents, and the selection of safer routes, the companies say.
“A key part of Telenav’s mission is to connect cars and users in a way that makes driving safe and convenient, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Iteris to further that goal,” said Ahsan Habib, vice president of professional services at Telenav. “With the addition of ClearData’s dynamic data points, we’ll be able to enhance our navigation capabilities and more easily create the connected, convenient and safe experience we strive for.”
