Vehicle perception company Provizio has unveiled its latest product, VizioPrime 6K, at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The software-defined digital imaging radar and perception solution is designed to increase safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all and eliminate road fatalities, enabling the next generation of autonomous driving features at scale.
The company hopes that its improved imaging radar performance will help its OEM partners to deliver L3+ ADAS and AD without costly and obtrusive lidar sensors. According to Provizio, VizioPrime 6K increases the ability to distinguish between objects, such as cars and pedestrians, and offers enhanced small object detection, such as tires, at ultra-long distances. This is achieved with proprietary active antenna technologies, modulation schemes and sparse array designs that expand the antenna resolution at minimal cost.
Such features are designed to create a 1km cocoon of safety for all vehicles using the product, and deliver 360° visibility when coupled with VizioPlex surround sensors.
Carl Jackson, head of corporate strategy at Provizio, explained, “A hidden superpower of imaging radar is that it can be mounted inside a vehicle’s bumper allowing 360° imaging without negatively impacting vehicle styling. The introduction of VizioPrime 6K reinforces the role of radar technology in proactively preventing untoward incidents and spearheads the direction in which the automotive industry is heading.”
Dr Scott Thayer, who works in perception at Provizio, added, “The performance characteristics within VizioPrime 6K go beyond any active sensors available on the market to date – across range, resolution, perception and all-weather performance. Combining the established robustness of radar with extraordinary resolution, VizioPrime eliminates the need for lidar sensors to unlock vehicle autonomy.”
