Spirent is showcasing SimXona on its booth at ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo California. Developed in partnership with Xona Space Systems, it enables certified, deterministic testing using the next generation of low Earth orbit (LEO) positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) signals.
In an interview live at the show, Ajay Vemuru, Spirent’s director of business operations and strategy – Americas, explained, “Our test systems have evolved alongside pioneering industries such as automotive since the 1980s, and that is no different today. As vehicle, system and subsystem developers are looking to add greater precision and resilience, Spirent is helping the integration of more sensors with greater cooperation and redundancy.”
He continued, “Our latest solution – SimXona – enables developers to test the use of Xona Space Systems’ Pulsar constellation to determine the benefits it could bring to their products. All this is possible years before the proposed constellation is operational.
“Pulsar is intended to add greater robustness through higher received signal power, and greater precision through supplementing existing PNT technologies. Whether looking to add greater user experience for driver-operated vehicles, or to enable next-gen autonomous vehicles to navigate safely, this could be an attractive proposition for manufacturers and Tier 1s.”
Commenting on the show, Vemuru said, “Spirent has attended, exhibited and spoken at the ADAS & Autonomous Vehicle Technology Expo in both the US and Europe for a number of years. We see this as a great showcase for an industry that is helping to drive PNT technology forward, and an important indicator of how we can continue to enable it.”
