A collaboration between Polestar and Mobileye will lead to Polestar 4 becoming the first production vehicle to feature the latter’s Chauffeur autonomous driving technology. Integration of the smart technology will be carried out by ECARX.
To date, Mobileye’s ADAS technology has been installed in more than 150 million cars globally, and it is anticipated that it could also be fitted to future Polestar models.
Upon launch in China in 2024, the Polestar 4 will feature Mobileye SuperVision-based ADAS. The first deliveries to the country are expected to be at the end of 2023.
In the future, Mobileye anticipates that the Chauffeur technology will be capable of carrying out eyes-off, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways, in addition to eyes-on automated driving in other scenarios.
“I am really happy with how Polestar 4’s production readiness is advancing,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO. “A collaboration with Mobileye can significantly push innovation in our Polestar 4 electric performance SUV coupe. We know that driving yourself is not always fun and exciting – this technology means our customers could enable autonomous driving when they want, making all future journeys enjoyable.”
Polestar 4 combines distinct design elements from the Polestar Precept concept car with the aerodynamic lines of a coupe and the space and comfort of a modern SUV. It is positioned between Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in terms of size and price.
