Camera-based in-cabin analysis software specialist Emotion3D, AD and ADAS radar technology developer Chuhang Tech and Sleep Advice Technologies (SAT), a startup specializing in sleep onset prediction, have partnered to develop a multi-sensor in-cabin analysis system.
With drowsiness and fatigue causing a high number of crashes and near-crashes on international roads each year, the companies are working on creating a new standard of automotive drowsiness detection.
As drowsiness is an extremely complex state to analyze, the companies are developing a solution that uses multiple sensors to detect signs of drowsiness and fatigue. A combination of Emotion3D’s human analysis software stack Cabin Eye, which gathers valuable information on the driver from camera images, and radar solutions from Chuhang Tech will be used to analyze vital signs. These will be partnered with SAT’s sleep onset prediction algorithms to accurately identify signs of drowsiness in real time.
The smart solution will also provide features required by Euro NCAP, including distraction warnings and child presence detection enabled by Chuhang Tech’s mmWave radar technology.
“We are working toward Vision Zero within all our projects and partnerships and we are happy to have made a step forward in drowsiness detection together with SAT and Chuhang Tech,” said Florian Seitner, CEO, Emotion3D.
“We are glad to combine our sleep onset prediction algorithm with a non-intrusive sensing technology for vital signs,” added Riccardo Groppo, CEO and co-founder of SAT. “This is the way forward for automotive drowsiness detection.”
Wogong Zhang, CTO and co-founder, Chuhang Tech, said, “We believe that our joint solution, combining radar technology with advanced imaging algorithms, will be a game-changer in drowsiness detection and child presence detection, making our roads safer for everyone. In the meantime, it provides a perfect multi-sensor fusion for smart in-cabin applications.”
